Stitch Sunday - Horizontal Interlocking Gobelin

Stitch Sunday - Horizontal Interlocking Gobelin

We're back and talking about Horizontal Interlocking (or Encroaching) Gobelin. As a reminder, the purpose of this series is to introduce/showcase some stitches. Our plan is to give the stitch diagram, a stitched example, including examples of the stitch in a few finished pieces, talk about various places you could use the stitch and provide a video demonstrating the stitch. I don't know about you, but seeing just a stitch diagram isn't always helpful to visualize how the stitch will look on canvas, so I'm hoping this series will be a good resource for you as you are looking for stitches.

Notes:

You will see this stitch called Horizontal Interlocking Gobelin and Horizontal Encroaching Gobelin- both are referring to the same stitch. For the purpose of this post, we are going to refer to it as Horizontal Interlocking Gobelin.

Also, if you look around for a diagram for this stitch, you find multiple ways that it is diagrammed. For the purposes of this post, we diagrammed the most common one we found - but just know there are a couple of ways this could be stitched.

Why we love this stitch: We love the smooth and continuous look that this stitch provides - everything looks very beautifully blended. This makes this a great stitch for skies. In addition, because the stitches over lap, I find this is a great stitch if you are looking to blend thread colors together, such as with skies and animal fur.

Below are a few examples of where we have used this stitch:

Stitch Example: Horizontal Interlocking Gobelin stitched in Silk and Ivory thread on 13 Mesh canvas as the sky
Canvas: Star Spangled Night by  Fire and Iris
Stitch Example: Horizontal Interlocking Gobelin stitched in Silk and Ivory thread on 13 Mesh canvas as the sky
Canvas: Fresh Tracks by Fire and Iris

Stitch Example: Horizontal Interlocking Gobelin stitched in Pepper Pot thread on 18 Mesh canvas as the bath tub
Canvas: Kraken by Fire and Iris

Lastly, here is a video tutorial of the Horizontal Interlocking Gobelin Stitch- enjoy!
