Stitch Sunday - Skip Tent Stitch

Stitch Sunday - Skip Tent Stitch

A blog series I've had in the back of my mind for awhile, I'm really excited to finally begin this series! The purpose of this series is to introduce/showcase some stitches. Our plan is to give the stitch diagram, a stitched example, including examples of the stitch in a few finished pieces, talk about various places you could use the stitch and provide a video demonstrating the stitch. I don't know about you, but seeing just a stitch diagram isn't always helpful to visualize how the stitch will look on canvas, so I'm hoping this series will be a good resource for you as you are looking for stitches. It's our hope to feature a stitch or two a month, and if you have any stitches you'd like us to show,  please send us a message!

So for this first installment, we're featuring a personal favorite - skip tent stitch.

Why we love this stitch:

It is a great first progression in to decorative stitches from usual tent stitches. And because it's so similar to usual tent stitches there are numerous places you can use it. We personally love it as a background stitch because it is quick and doesn't take away from the main part of the piece.

Below are a few examples of where we've used this

Stitch example: Skip tent stitch as the background in Pepper Pot thread on 18 Mesh canvas
Canvas: Tool box by Fire and Iris

Stitch example: Skip tent stitch as the background both the blue and white backgrounds in Pepper Pot thread on 18 Mesh canvas
Canvases: Sun and Sea Tarot Cards by Fire and Iris

Stitch example: Skip tent stitch as the white background on 13 Mesh canvas. This background alternates the skip tent with Planet Earth Silk and Silk Lame Braid
Canvases: Lupine Pillow - Geo by Fire and Iris

Lastly, here is a video to provide a demonstration of this stitch!
