I love the look of a lantern displayed on a mantel at Christmas time. Usually adorned with a touch of greenery and containing a candle, there is just something so inviting about this piece of decor. I thought it would be fun to encapsulate this in to a needlepoint piece! Small enough to display as an ornament, yet big enough to leave out on a table, these 3D lanterns are sure to be a hit! I stitched mine with a glow in the dark thread to simulate the glow of the candle and then had it finished with a small metal ring (instead of a cording loop) to give it the more traditional lantern look and I think it turned out great!
Note: the canvas is painted in a dark grey to make it a little easier to stitch with black thread, or to color swap!
